Basketball is more than just a game—it’s a legacy built on integrity, discipline, good health, and the spirit of fair play. At SRV Trainer, we were honored to stand alongside the esteemed Naismith family in celebrating our shared values that define the greatest essence of the sport.
Our partnership reached new heights as we co-hosted the announcement of this year’s Naismith Good Sportsmanship Award recipients during the 2024 Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies Classic in Greeneville, TN.
A Historic Celebration of Sportsmanship
The Naismith family, whose patriarch Dr. James Naismith invented the game of basketball, continues to uphold his vision of using the sport as a tool for character development. This year’s Naismith Good Sportsmanship Award was presented to two of basketball’s most iconic figures: Dr. Shaquille O’Neal and Ms. Caitlin Clark.

As Margaret Naismith eloquently put it:
"What an absolute pleasure for N.E.M. Sports (@nemsports.apparel) and @srvtrainer to host the Naismith family during their announcement of this year’s recipients of the Naismith Good Sportsmanship Award during the company’s hometown basketball tournament: the Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies Classic in Greeneville, TN.
Congratulations to Dr. Shaquille O’Neal and Ms. Caitlin Clark who have exemplified the fundamental characteristics of good sportsmanship throughout their careers in basketball. Both have inspired countless young people to play for the love of the sport as well as to pursue a path of continuous growth and personal development through fair play, faith, and community enrichment.
The trip included a press conference at the local YMCA (highlighting the importance of the Y being the birthplace of the sport we love, thanks to the family’s namesake - Dr. James Naismith), a tour of the SRV Trainer factory and, of course, watching some great young women’s basketball."

Honoring the Legacy of Dr. James Naismith
The press conference at the local YMCA was a significant moment, as it highlighted the deep connection between basketball and the very institution where the game was born. Dr. James Naismith’s vision was always rooted in sportsmanship, teamwork, and community engagement—principles that continue to shape the game today.
Previous recipients of the Naismith Good Sportsmanship Award include basketball legends Michael Jordan, Dean Smith, Mike Krzyzewski, Kay Yow, Red Auerbach, Oscar Robertson, Pat Summitt, Jerry West, and John Wooden. These iconic players and coaches have exemplified integrity, respect, and dedication to the sport, leaving a lasting legacy both on and off the court.
A Tour of Innovation: The SRV Trainer Factory
The Naismith family also had the opportunity to visit the SRV Trainer factory, where they witnessed firsthand the basketball training equipment revolutionizing basketball development. SRV Trainer is dedicated to pushing athletes to new heights, reinforcing the same values of persistence, skill-building, and sportsmanship that the Naismith Good Sportsmanship Award represents.

Recognizing Excellence: Shaquille O’Neal & Caitlin Clark
This year’s award recipients—Dr. Shaquille O’Neal and Caitlin Clark—exemplify what it means to play the game with heart, respect, and an unwavering commitment to growth.
-
Shaquille O’Neal, a Hall of Fame NBA legend, has used his platform to inspire the next generation, not just through his dominance on the court but through his philanthropic efforts and infectious love for the game.
-
Caitlin Clark, a rising star in women’s basketball, continues to redefine excellence with her relentless work ethic, leadership, and dedication to growing the game for future generations.
Their careers stand as beacons of what basketball can do beyond competition—creating opportunities, building communities, and inspiring lifelong values.

A Tournament to Remember
The Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies Classic was the perfect setting to honor these achievements. Watching young female athletes compete with passion and determination reinforced the importance of sportsmanship in action. The event was a celebration of basketball’s past, present, and future.
Looking Forward
Our partnership with the Naismith family is a testament to our shared belief in fostering excellence, character, and innovation within the sport. As SRV Trainer continues to develop basketball training tools that help athletes push beyond their limits, we are proud to align with a legacy that represents the true essence of basketball.
We extend our gratitude to the Naismith family, Dr. Shaquille O’Neal, Caitlin Clark, and all the young athletes who make basketball the incredible sport it is today. This event was more than just an awards ceremony—it was a reminder of why we love the game and the responsibility we have to uphold its values.
Stay tuned for more collaborations and initiatives as we continue to work alongside the Naismith legacy to elevate basketball training and sportsmanship to new heights.
